Walter T. Plazewski Endowed Scholarship

Walter Plazewski was appointed to the Saint Leo College Preparatory faculty by headmaster Father Raphael Schooff in the fall of 1950. Serving under Father Raphael and his two successors, Fathers Stephen Herrmann and Robert Velten, Plazewski taught English literature to the seventh and eighth grades as well as the high school freshmen and sophomores, until the end of the 1962-1963 academic year. In addition, with the merging of Prep and Holy Name Academy classes beginning in the fall of 1955, he taught on the Holy Name Academy faculty for most of his academic career. After retiring from teaching, Plazewski became a respected local businessman and political leader. In every endeavor, he remained faithful to the Benedictine values he adopted as a member of the Saint Leo family. Mr. Plazewski was recognized for his work and affinity for Saint Leo with the Florida Benedictine Spirit Award in 2009 and named an honorary alumnus of Saint Leo University in 2010.He passed away on July 9, 2014, having recently celebrated his 97th birthday.
